Ski-Worldcup 2020 in Sölden / Austria

At this year’s Ski World Cup kick-off in Sölden / Austria, the ORF partnered once again with BNC Austria to cover the ingest and post-production areas. We were responsible for recording up to 6 streams in Apple® ProRes HD 120, which were created via an EVS® XT4k® server and an EVS® IPDirector® and streamed in real time on an Elements® CUBE® NAS-Storage.
Two MacPro-based Adobe Premiere editing suites also provided by BNC Austria were able to access the Elements Cube NAS storage via 1GigE Ethernet connection and thus use the latest images for reporting in real time.
In order to guarantee to the editors uncomplicated and effective access to the recorded material, IPBrowse, a browsing client application from EVS, was made available for the first time to the ORF editors. This application, which was installed on standard Windows laptops, grants access to the central IPDirector database and enables editors to access every stream or clip that is on the Elements NAS. This also applied to the XDCAM EB material (interviews, intermediate images, etc …) which was “ingested” immediately after submission by the respective cameraman to the NAS. This option was received very positively by the ORF sports editorial team, as there was no longer any cumbersome handling of several software players and there was only one central platform for viewing all the material.
Despite the adverse circumstances and the event being brought forward by a week due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the cooperation with ORF went smoothly as always, many thanks to our local staff!
